Potsdam, the city of culture with a population of approx. 180,000 and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers a spectacular baroque city center, excellent residential locations and a city center with attractive shopping and strolling opportunities. Those seeking recreation will find sufficient and invitingly beautiful places for rest and relaxation. Because Potsdam consists of 2/3 forests and water, this and the proximity to the city offer above-average recreational opportunities.
Strictly speaking, the southern city center, located on the Havel River, is not a single district, but consists of many neighborhoods, each of which has its own special features and advantages. The southern part of the city center is divided by the Nuthe River into a northern area, which is mainly built with apartment buildings from different generations. Due to the Nuthepark, as well as all playgrounds, daycare centers and schools, this area is very child & family friendly.
South of the Nuthe is Potsdam's main train station, the main traffic hub in Potsdam. The main station is not only used by commuters and travelers to get to work and home as well as to their vacation or excursion destination. The station arcades are also home to numerous stores, supermarkets and the largest cinema in the state capital. Directly opposite the main station is the modern sports and leisure pool "blu".
The location is idyllic and very green with mature trees. Due to the excellent location, schools, shopping facilities, bus and streetcar stops can be reached within less than five minutes on foot.
To the neighboring capital metropolis of Berlin, you have both public connections as well as the Avus and the Berlin city ring (A100/A115), which can be reached via the adjacent Nuthestrasse. For example, you can reach the Ku'damm in Charlottenburg within about 30 minutes. The airport Berlin-Brandenburg (BER), 48 km away, can be reached in 35 minutes.
